Patently Apple reports that Apple has filed a patent for cloud gaming on 5G devices. The patent was originally filed in February, but was published this week in Europe. The patent states, in part, the following:
One potential use case for network controlled interactive service in fifth generation (5G) wireless communication networks is cloud rendering game. Cloud gaming, (also known as gaming on demand) is a type of online gaming that allows direct and on-demand video streaming of games onto different computing devices through the use of a thin client.
It looks like Apple is gearing up to have cloud gaming offered on its 5G line of devices. One possibility is that the cloud offering will be bundled with Apple Arcade, so players can simply stream the available games instead of downloading them. This would be a similar strategy to Xbox, which recently announced that cloud gaming will be offered via their Game Pass Ultimate subscription service.
