Courtesy of /u/GraceFromGoogle on Reddit, Google has ended its Stadia Premiere Edition/Cyberpunk 2077 promotional bundle. The reddit post reads as follows:
Hey everyone, due to the overwhelmingly positive reception, we’ve now closed the Cyberpunk 2077 promotion in all countries. If you placed an order before 4 PM PT on December 13, you are eligible for the promotion and will receive a code within 7 days to redeem your Premiere Edition. Thank you all for the support and hope you all are enjoying Night City!
Note: For players located in Canada, please note that the promotion ended on December 10. For more information, take a look at this post.
The promotion offered a Premiere Edition bundle, including a Stadia Controller and Chromecast Ultra, for every purchase of Cyberpunk 2077. That’s a $99 value. The promotion was originally scheduled to end on December 17th.
Cyberpunk 2077 has performed notoriously poorly since launch, particularly on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles. We’ve yet to play it, but, reportedly, the game is rife with bugs, some game-breaking. More concernedly, the game simply isn’t optimized for last gen consoles. Their hardware cannot operate the game at an acceptable level of performance.
Players have had mixed success refunding their game through Sony or Microsoft, who have explicit refund policies (and of which Microsoft’s is significantly better). CD Projekt Red, however, on Monday issued a statement offering refunds for the game through them, by email. The refund policy does not apply to the PC version, which the developer claims will continue to receive performance patches. Bloomberg reports that CD Projekt Red founders have lost $1 billion in revenue since launch. Stock in the company has dropped by one third. Finally, GamesIndustry.biz has a good article on an investor call regarding the game’s launch.
Given the troubled launch of Cyberpunk 2077, all evidence suggests that many new players have flocked to Stadia as their preferred platform of choice to play the game. With a stable internet connection, Cyberpunk 2077, by most accounts, runs well on Stadia. Others have had issues with blurriness and artifacting. It seems that running the stream at 4K, which requires a Stadia Pro subscription, alleviates some issues present in a 1080p stream. Running the game on a Chromecast Ultra also seems to perform better than in a browser on PC.
