Stadia Q&A Summary

Today, Andrey Doronichev, Director of Product for Stadia, held a Question & Answer session on Reddit. Here’s a rundown of new information.

  • Stadia Pro subscribers will get one free game a month, roughly, beginning with Destiny 2: The Collection.
  • Stadia will support all HID-compliant controllers, for example the Xbox One controller and DualShock 4. To play on a television, however, players will need a Stadia controller and Chromecast Ultra.
  • Stadia can support free to play games, but they don’t have any to announce as of yet. They hope to announce free to play games in the coming months.
  • Social Features at Launch: Friends List, Parties, Voice Chat
  • Stadia will eventually have the equivalent to Achievements and Trophies, but they won’t be ready for launch.
  • They don’t plan to show off the UI until launch in November.
  • They plan to support non-standard screen resolutions over time.
  • Stadia will have a feature called Takeout, which will allow you to download your save data if you choose to play a game another way.
  • At launch, Stadia will offer a Parental Dashboard with controls over the Stadia experience.
  • Early next year, Stadia will support Family Sharing, allowing for multiple profiles on a single account.
  • The Stadia controller features a 3.5 mm jack for a headset. The controller can support bluetooth headsets but will not do so at launch. If you’re playing on a computer or Pixel 3, you will be able to connect your headset wirelessly to your computer or phone. If you’re playing on a Chromecast Ultra, you’ll need to plug in a headset.
  • Google hopes to offer mod support at some point and is working with developers to figure out the best way how.
  • Google is working with developers and publishers to support cross-platform play.
